Our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Russell Meteer, age 93, passed away in Rocklin on Friday morning, July 7, 2023. Russell was born February 26, 1930, in Long Beach, CA to Ford John Meteer and Louise Vera Sunderlin. From his father, Russell learned a love of gardening, and from his mother a love of acting. He also enjoyed camping with the Boy Scouts where he served for several decades, earning many awards such as the Silver Beaver and the Lifetime Service Award. He also loved sailing with the Sea Scouts. As a young man, Russell served in the Army Air Corps and in the Navy. He was married to Verba Beth Johnston on August 14, 1953, in Annapolis, after a beautiful 5-year courtship of letter writing. Russell and Verba were sealed in the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 25, 1953. Russell worked in several locations around the country at IBM for 35 years. He and Verba had seven children, 33 grandchildren, and [59] great-grandchildren. As senior couple missionaries for the Church, Verba, and Russell served together in Manchester, England, Salt Lake City, UT, and Roseville, CA. They were also ordinance workers at the Oakland and Sacramento Temples. Throughout some of his retirement years, Russell worked at the Safeway grocery store in Rocklin, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Russell was preceded in death by his dear Verba, his parents and siblings, and his son, David. He is survived by his children: Nanette (daughter-in-law), Marla (Dave) Wharton, Valori Meteer, Steven (MaryEllen) Meteer, Michael (Silenia) Meteer, Mark (Karen) Meteer, and Sam (Susen) Meteer.
