Henry (DOC) Elkins Martin, September 29, 1934 - August 9, 2022.
Doc was born in Des Moines, Iowa; at an early age, his family moved to California. Doc was a quiet man in the regards that he didn’t talk about his past. It was recently we discovered he learned to fly planes out of the Lincoln, CA airport.
He received a letter of appreciation from the Base Commander at McClellan Air Force base along with the Secret Service regarding the visit from President Ford early September 1975. Doc served in the Navy and during his service was aboard the USS Cassia County, LST 527. He served from 1951 to 1955 with receiving the National Defense, United Nations, Korean FUC and Korean Service medals.
Doc loved the Sierra Mountain range. He lived in the Tahoe national park. Through the years he enjoyed gardening and making all sorts of wooden toys and crafts. Doc would always make plenty of wooden train sets to donate to the community children during the holidays for years.
Doc was my mom’s partner for over 37 years and stepped up to the plate when mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer taking care of her until her death. He was my bonus dad and will be very much missed.
