Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" Albert Lopes

Lawrence was born in Watsonville, CA and was a resident of Hayward, CA until 1982 when the family moved to Oakdale. He is survived by his wife Jane of 53 years, his 3 children Larry, Jr., Genna Modrell (Rick), Dan, his sister Mitzi Perez of Hayward and 6 grandchildren Aubrey, Lauren, Emma, Quinn, Miranda, and Katelyn. Lawrence graduated from Hayward High in 1951 as a four-year member of the Future Farmers of America. The Monday after graduation he went to work for Pacific Bell as a maintenance cable splicer. He was in the Army during the Korean War and returned to his job at Pacific Bell where he remained until retirement after 43 and a half years. In 1963, he became a volunteer fireman for Fairview Fire Dept. in Hayward and then Valley Home Fire District and Oakdale Rural Fire District where he retired from volunteer service in 2013 at the age 80. Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, team roping, cattle, deer hunting, farming, trap shooting and was a member of the Oakdale Sportsman's Cub and the Oakdale Saddle Club. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oakdale High Future Farmers of America or the charity of your choice.
